Students present at national research conference

Seven NDSU undergraduate student attended the National Conference on Undergraduate Research at the University of North Carolina-Asheville April 7-9.

Established in 1987, the conference is an annual event dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity in all fields of study. This year’s conference drew more than 4,000 participants. Students from across the United States presented their research through posters, oral presentations, visual arts and performances.

The NDSU students who attended the conference were poster and oral presentation awardees from the second annual NDSU EXPLORE event held Nov. 3, 2015.

The trip was sponsored by the NDSU Research and Creative Activity Office.

The students, their advisers and presentation titles are:

• December graduate Cooper Bierscheid, industrial and manufacturing engineering

“Utilizing Additive Manufacturing Processes for Medical Devices: Prosthesis”

• Mariom Carvajal, microbiology

Faculty adviser: David Rider

“Revision of the Genus Bebaeus Dallas, 1851 (Insecta: Hemiptera: Heteroptera) with Comments on Its Natural History”

• Torie Jones, Luke Koran, Typhanie Schafer and John Wells, public history

Faculty adviser: Angela Smith

“Ellendale Public History Field School Project”

• Lauren Singelmann, electrical and computer engineering

Faculty adviser: Dan Ewert

“Graphical User Interface That Analyzes RNA Sequencing Data”
