NDSU to welcome students, move-in day set

SHARE

NDSU is set to welcome new and returning students during move-in days, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 20 and 21, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. About 3,300 students are anticipated to check in at the NDSU residence halls, which will be open and ready for them.

“It’s exciting because, beyond all the emotions the families have, the entire university feels the emotions of the academic year finally starting,” said Rian Nostrum, Residence Life director. “It’s the sense that the students are back – they are here creating hum and vibrancy for the campus.”

According to Nostrum, students will receive information before their arrival about how to reach their specific residence hall. In addition, each student will receive a placard with their residence hall clearly labeled. The placard is to be placed on the dashboard of the student’s vehicle, allowing volunteers in safety vests to give directions quickly and efficiently.

On Saturday, more than 300 student volunteers will be waiting to greet new students, unload vehicles and carry items into residence hall rooms. Faculty and staff also will be available throughout campus to welcome students and answer questions.

“I describe move-in day as organized chaos,” Nostrum said. “But every step of the way there is a volunteer directing where to park, where to unload, how to get into the rooms.”

The Memorial Union will be a hub of activity, as the NDSU Bookstore, NDSU One Stop and other services will be open and available to assist students.

The Presidents’ Welcome, scheduled for Monday, Aug. 22, at 1 p.m., kicks off the academic year at the university gates near the corner of University Drive and 12th Avenue North. NDSU President Dean L. Bresciani and student body president Spencer Moir will lead the incoming freshman class through the gates before addressing the students. Zoë Leuthner, a freshman from St. Louis Park, Minnesota, will represent her classmates with remarks. In addition, academic college events are set to follow the Presidents’ Welcome.
