SHARE

The Northern Plains Ethics Institute at NDSU is set to hold four panel sessions addressing the issue of health and health care in our communities. The first of the series is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 22, at 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the NDSU McGovern Alumni Center.

Panelists are set to include Cass County sheriff Paul Laney, North Dakota State College of Science President John Richman and David Olig, president and owner of Prescription Center Pharmacy Inc. They will address why people need to be healthy and educated to be successful, as well as explore potential challenges and avenues to community solutions.

According to institute director Dennis Cooley, some questions for panelists will include:

• What are the misperceptions that people have about education and health?

• Why don’t we have better access to mental and physical healthcare?

• What role does education play for consumers and providers of healthcare?

• What questions should we be asking about health, education and healthcare?

• What recommendations do you have for solving or addressing education and healthcare problems?

• Are there small things that people in the community can do to address these issues or help solve them?

In addition, questions from the audience are highly encouraged.

“Everyone is welcome to attend and participate in what will be the beginning of a community conversation,” Cooley said. “We at the Northern Plains Ethics Institute focus on finding solutions to community problems by engaging the community in conversations that, hopefully, lead to community decision making and planning.”

Questions or requests for accommodation can be directed to Cooley at 701-231-0738 or dennis.cooley@ndsu.edu.
