The North Dakota Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, known as ND EPSCoR, has announced an open application period for its Graduate Student Research Assistantship program.

The program is designed to increase graduate school opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields for Master of Science and doctoral applicants to attend NDSU and the University of North Dakota, the state’s two major research universities.

Priority is given to students who have not yet started their graduate courses or who are in the first semester of their graduate program and who have: graduated with a bachelor’s degree from a North Dakota University System Primarily Undergraduate Institution: Dickinson State University, Mayville State University, Minot State University or Valley City State University; or from a tribal college in North Dakota that holds membership in the North Dakota Association of Tribal Colleges; or participated in ND EPSCoR’s Nurturing American Tribal Undergraduate Research and Education, known as NATURE, program either in high school or undergraduate careers.

Applications also may be considered for awards to students in the final semester of their baccalaureate degree program at a Primarily Undergraduate Institution or tribal college, who demonstrate exemplary academic, research and outreach capabilities and who have already been accepted into a master’s degree or doctoral program at NDSU or UND in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics field. The program offers a monthly stipend of $1,620 for up to 24 months.

Faculty and staff are invited to recruit eligible students. Letters of application must be submitted to the NDSU Graduate Office no later than March 2, 2017, at noon. Additional detailed information and application requirements are at the ND EPSCoR website.

ND EPSCoR is a federally- and state-funded program designed to improve the ability of university researchers to compete more effectively for federal, regional and private research grants in the sciences, engineering and mathematics.
