Student-athlete nominated for Allstate NABC Good Works Team

NDSU men’s basketball senior student-athlete Dexter Werner is among the nominees for the 2017 Allstate NABC Good Works Team, it was announced Nov. 30 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

The award shines a spotlight on a select group of student-athletes who have shown dedication to community service, leadership and altruism in their communities.

In its fifth year, the team recognizes players at all levels of college basketball who have made outstanding contributions in the areas of volunteerism and civic involvement. The final award recipients will be announced in February.

The Bismarck, North Dakota, native has volunteered at the Roger Maris Cancer Center “61 for 61” Home Run/Walk in Fargo, visited local children in the hospital and spoken at Fargo schools about hard work and acting with character. Along with his Bison teammates, Werner also volunteered at a school carnival and at iCan Bike – an event that helps individuals with disabilities learn to ride bicycles. 

Werner has a 3.44 cumulative grade point average with a major in marketing. He was named to the NABC Honors Court in each of the past two years for his academic performance.
