Interim department chair named

Zhili “Jerry” Gao, associate professor, has been named interim chair of the Department of Construction Management and Engineering. His duties are effective through June 30, 2017.

“Dr. Gao was chosen as the interim chair based on input from faculty and staff,” Gary Smith, dean of engineering. “His strengths include a deep knowledge of the department’s accreditation requirements and his commitment to continuous improvement in teaching.”

Gao, who joined the NDSU faculty in 2006, is director of the Concrete Materials and Performance Laboratory and the Integrated Virtual Design and Construction Laboratory.

Gao earned his doctorate in civil engineering from Iowa State University, Ames. He is a licensed professional engineer and certified professional constructor.

His research interests include pavement quality assessment and assurance, advanced concrete techniques such as sustainable concrete and new concrete materials, and virtual design and construction.
