Ali Rahim Taleqani, an NDSU transportation and logistics doctoral student, is scheduled to present his research at the 8th International Visualization in Transportation Symposium: Visualization in Action July 27-28 in Washington, D.C.

Taleqani will present a poster, titled "Flight delays and cancellations: What's behind the numbers." The research examines flight delays and the factors that play a significant role in them such as weather conditions, airport congestion or airline congestion.

The study uses machine learning techniques to understand the meaning behind the data. Findings from the research may help the airline industry improve performance.

The symposium is organized by the Transportation Research Board, part of the National Academies of Science.
