Faculty award nominations sought

Nominations are invited for faculty awards processed through the Office of the Provost. The deadline for the first award, the Phi Kappa Phi Faculty Lectureship, is Aug. 25.

Nominations may be submitted by faculty, staff, students, alumni, unit administrators or deans. Self-nominations also will be accepted. Nomination materials should be sent to ndsu.provost@ndsu.edu.

Nominations must include a nomination letter (no more than two pages) or nomination form, accompanied by a curriculum vitae (no more than three pages) and should clearly describe how the nominee meets the award criteria.

The awards include:

Phi Kappa Phi Faculty Lectureship Award

Deadline for nominations: Aug. 25

Finalist interviews: Sept. 11-15

Award amount: $2,500 (up to two finalists receive $500)

The honor recognizes faculty for outstanding, high impact research, scholarship or creative activity and can effectively present their research to a broad community. The lecture is scheduled for Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. in the Memorial Union Plains room. 

Faculty Lectureship Award

Deadline for nominations: Oct. 27

Finalist interviews: Nov. 20-30

Award amount: $2,500 (up to two finalists receive $500)

One of the most prestigious of the faculty awards, the honor recognizes sustained excellence in teaching, scholarly achievement and service. The lecture is scheduled for April 12, 2018, at 7 p.m. in the Memorial Union Century Theater. 

Odney Excellence in Teaching Award

Deadline for nominations: Dec. 1

Award amount: $2,500

The award honors a faculty member who has consistently demonstrated outstanding teaching and has made positive contributions to the educational experience of NDSU students. Students and alumni submit nominations.

Waldron Excellence in Research Award

Deadline for nominations: Dec. 1

Award amount: $2,500

The honor recognizes a faculty member who has consistently demonstrated outstanding achievements and contributions to research and scholarship.

Peltier Innovation in Teaching Award

Deadline for nominations: Dec. 1

Award amount: $2,500

The award acknowledges faculty who have used innovative teaching techniques to enhance the educational experience of NDSU students. Group nominations are accepted.

Excellence in Mentoring Award

Deadline for nominations: Jan. 19, 2018

Award amount: $2,500

The award recognizes outstanding mentoring by faculty of undergraduate or graduate students, faculty and others. Students, staff and faculty may submit nominations.

Chamber of Commerce NDSU Distinguished Faculty Service Award

Deadline for nominations: Jan. 19, 2018

Award amount: $5,000

Eligibility: Faculty holding the rank of full professor.

The honor acknowledges faculty who have attained distinction in their profession and have made substantial service contributions to the community and region.

The Faculty Awards and Recognition Committee will review all nominations and select finalists for each award based upon the candidate’s nomination materials. Recipients will be recognized at the annual Celebration of Faculty Excellence, scheduled for May 10, 2018.
