Graduate student receives oil chemists travel grant

Cereal science doctoral student Minwei Xu was awarded a Lipid Oxidation and Quality Division Student Travel Grant to attend the 2018 American Oil Chemists’ Society annual meeting and expo in Minneapolis in May. He will be recognized during the LOQ Division luncheon at the meeting.

Xu also has been invited to present “The Antioxidative Activity of Soluble Bound Phenolic Compounds Fractions Extracted from Germinated Chickpea in Oil-in-Water Emulsions” during the meeting.

Xu’s home country is China. His graduate research title is “Improvement of the Attributes and Identification of Antioxidants from Pulse Seeds through Germination.” He is advised by Bingcan Chen, assistant professor in food and cereal chemistry.

The society’s annual meeting attracts more than 1,400 participants. The meeting and expo is a premier international forum about fats, oils and lipids.
