NDSU’s blended online bachelor’s of science in nursing program has been recognized as one of the best accredited online BSN programs in the country for 2018 by BestColleges.com.

The ranking highlights accredited, not-for-profit institutions that have developed exceptional academic online programs for students looking to advance their knowledge and skills in nursing.

Listed at number 4 in the ranking, NDSU’s online bachelor’s of science in nursing program offers a blended-format curriculum. Selection for the ranking was determined by academic quality, admissions, retention and graduation rates, according to BestColleges.com.

The NDSU blended online program is available to:

  • licensed practical nurses to complete their bachelor’s of science degrees to become registered nurses
  • registered nurses who wish to complete their bachelors’ of science degrees

“A bachelor’s of science degree in nursing can help distinguish candidates and enhance their career opportunities,” said Stephanie Snider, director of BestColleges.com. “North Dakota State University holds a top position on our ranking, due to their affordable and flexible program that’s tailored to students seeking to advance their career in nursing while continuing to work.”

“Our flexible online programs provide nurses the additional skills to advance in their careers and choose educational options that fit their needs and schedules,” said Dr. Carla Gross, associate dean of NDSU’s School of Nursing and Fargo site chair.

“The National Academy of Medicine has encouraged increasing the number of nurses with bachelor’s degrees from 50 percent to 80 percent in the U.S. by 2020,” said Gross.

Tiffeny Hestdalen, currently enrolled in the NDSU online BSN program, has found it to be a great fit and opportunity with her fulltime job and a family.

Blended programs provide online courses and one-to two-day immersions on site to solidify connections between students when they interact online and with faculty members to create an effective online experience.

“Online courses build on knowledge that LPNs and RNs learned through their previous degrees and job experience,” said Wendy Kopp, director of NDSU Nursing at Sanford Health in Bismarck. “We also serve students and residents through the NDSU School of Nursing at Sanford Health, as we work to educate highly-qualified nurses to meet the state's needs."

“This recognition of the excellent accredited nursing program at NDSU shows our faculty and staff commitment to students and to meeting current and future healthcare workforce needs,” said Charles D. Peterson, dean of the College of Health Professions.
