NDSU distance runner Elliott Stone has been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America first team in Division I men’s track and field and cross country, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced June 21.

Stone, from Bismarck, North Dakota, owns a 4.0 cumulative GPA with a major in mechanical engineering. He completed his junior season of cross country and his sophomore seasons of indoor and outdoor track in the 2017-18 academic year.

Stone, a four-time Summit League Academic All-League honoree, was a member of the NDSU engineering and computer science team that competed at NASA’s Robotic Mining Competition the past two years.

This is the second straight year the Bison men’s track and field team has had a first-team Academic All-American, with Matti Mortimore claiming the honor last season.

NDSU had four men’s athletes named first-team Academic All-America for the 2017-18 school year – A.J. Jacobson (basketball), Jayse McLean (baseball), Clay Ream (wrestling) and Stone.
