President‘s Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs launches mentor program

The NDSU’s President’s Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs will launch the LIVE Real Mentor Program in January. The program's goal is to increase the knowledge of the NDSU community about the effects of high-risk alcohol and drug use and how to take further steps to promote an environment of safe and responsible attitudes toward alcohol. The program fulfills an objective of the President’s Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs Strategic Plan to Address High Risk Alcohol and Other Drug Use.

Participants of the LIVE Real Mentor Program will receive training and will have the opportunity to be a resource for individuals seeking information and guidance on issues related to alcohol and other drug use. The dates for the LIVE Real Mentor Program training sessions will be announced in upcoming weeks.

According to Gene Taylor, chair of the President's Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs, the LIVE Real Mentor Program is an important piece in a process that is aimed at decreasing the high-risk use of alcohol by students, which will ultimately lead to a reduction of problems associated with high-risk alcohol use and increase the success of students in the classroom.

The President’s Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs was appointed in 2007 and is made up of faculty, staff and students working to reduce high-risk alcohol and other drug use on the NDSU campus.
