Somnath Banerjee, assistant professor of marketing, is featured in a WalletHub story on American Express credit cards.

The article, “WalletHub makes it easy to find the best American Express credit card for you,” notes that American Express cards account for nearly 25 percent of all credit card spending in the country.

Banerjee responded to these questions:

• How strong is the American Express brand today, relative to the past?

• Do you think American Express will start offering credit cards to people with less-than-good credit anytime soon?

• How would you compare American Express’s credit card advertising to that of other credit card companies?

Among his comments, Banerjee said, “It seems that Amex continues to be a leading brand in financial services, but it seems to be facing competition from emerging fin tech rivals, in particular, and digital environment, in general. In response, it has tried to remain relevant by modifying its logo and increasing its online presence.”

Banerjee joined the NDSU faculty in 2015. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Patna University, India; his Master of Business Administration at the International Management Institute, India; and his doctorate in business administration from the University of Central Florida.
