Shelby Gunnells, a junior thrower for NDSU, has been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America second team in Division I women’s track and field, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced June 27.

Gunnells, who is from Solon, Iowa, has a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade-point average with a major in geology.

She earned second team All-America honors in the indoor shot put this season, finishing ninth at the NCAA Championships in March. Gunnells ranks second in NDSU indoor history in the shot put, sixth in school history in the hammer throw, and seventh all-time in the weight throw.

Gunnells’ honor is the eighth Academic All-America accolade for NDSU women’s track and field in the past seven years.
