Bill Law, assistant director of the Division of Fine Arts, will present Jazz Poetry at the Fergus Falls (Minn.) Center for the Arts, Saturday, Oct. 30, at 7:30 p.m. He will perform on upright bass with David Ferreira on piano and Mark Vinz reading his poetry. Tickets are $13 in advance, $15 at the door and $5 for students and children.

Sigurd Johnson, associate professor of music, was a guest conductor during the Minnesota Region 63A High School Honor Band, Oct. 16, at the Minnesota State University Moorhead Hanson Auditorium. Johnson worked with bands throughout the day and conducted several pieces during the public performance, which was held that evening.

Kent Kapplinger, associate professor of visual arts, discussed the Printmaking Education and Research Studio (PEARS) “Publishing Projects” at the Mid-America Print Council 2010 conference on Oct. 12 in Minneapolis. His presentation explained the projects, which are collaborative prints between invited visiting artists, PEARS master printers and NDSU visual arts students.

The PEARS program promotes printmaking production, education and innovation in the Midwest. The studio, sponsored by NDSU Division of Fine Arts and Department of Visual Arts, emphasizes new work, ideas and methods and facilitates interaction among a diverse audience. The studio strives to be an advocate for understanding the past and shaping the future of creative printmaking.
