NDSU research faculty can soon take part in a new event to develop a research idea, hone it with an interdisciplinary team and pitch it to a panel of judges. The event, called NDSU CoSearch,is scheduled for Oct. 25-26.

CoSearch is free and open to all faculty members who are interested in collaboration, research and addressing real world problems.

“Interdisciplinary research and collaboration is something that everyone wants. The reality of making it happen is more difficult, but CoSearch makes it easy for faculty from across campus find one another and work together to solve big problems,” said Scott Meyer, Ozbun Executive Director of Entrepreneurship and CoSearch organizer. “CoSearch is a research competition for faculty members that brings together great minds from across the state to develop interdisciplinary research proposals.”

The theme of the inaugural NDSU CoSearch event is “The Farm of the Future.” Meyer said he hopes ideas and perspectives from a variety of disciplines emerge on how farms could be transformed in coming decades.

“CoSearch is a new vision for the research process, centered on impact,” Meyer said. “We believe that universities can solve the world’s big challenges when our researchers come together to share their knowledge, passion and connections. We are excited to facilitate this exchange of ideas and create impact that will improve life for everyone in the Red River Valley and beyond.”

The event is set to be held in NDSU’s Research I, with the closing showcase scheduled for Elevate on Broadway in downtown Fargo.

Founded by NDSU alumnus Michael Burns, CoSearch began with the thought of how a start-up model could be applied to the research process. The event is hosted through a partnership of the NDSU College of Business, Emerging Prairie and the NDSU Office of Research and Creative Activity.

NDSU CoSearch was originally planned for spring 2019, but was rescheduled due to inclement weather.
