NDSU horticulture student Matthew Becker was selected to receive a 2020 Trans-Mississippi Turf Scholarship from the Trans-Mississippi Golf Association and Turf Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund was established to support students pursuing careers in turf management.
Candidates are nominated by a faculty member to complete an application process. Scholarship grants range from $2,500 to $7,500. This year, the association awarded 11 student scholarships totaling $60,000.
Becker is a senior majoring in horticulture, sports and urban turfgrass management option, with a soil science minor. He is advised by Deying Li, professor of sports and urban turfgrass management.
He is from Savage, Minnesota, and has accepted a position as the second assistant superintendent at Spring Hill Golf Club in Wayzata, Minnesota.
