NDSU Winter Commencement – Raquib Hasan's campus inspiration

SHARE

Student: Raquib Hasan, Pharmaceutical science doctoral student

Inspiration: Claudia Tomany, dean of the College of Graduate and Interdisciplinary Studies

NDSU students find inspiration in a variety of places. Classmates, faculty, advisers, NDSU staff members, roommates and campus friends all play a vital role in a successful college experience.

Raquib Hasan, who graduates this month with a doctoral degree in pharmaceutical science, was inspired by the caring encouragement of Claudia Tomany. Tomany is dean of graduate and interdisciplinary studies. Hasan said she’s a strong advocate who works hard to help all graduate students succeed.

“She’s created an environment in the NDSU Graduate School where everyone can freely express their thoughts, concerns and suggestions,” said Hasan, who is from Bangladesh. “She takes everything in and takes it to heart. She’s also very encouraging and really cares about what’s going on in your life inside and outside of the classroom. She provides support, but will let you bring your own ideas to the table. She’ll guide you rather than dictate what you should do.

“She’s a great role model for how to interact and empower other people. She’s always smiling and welcoming. Her support has been a priceless part of my experience at NDSU.”

Future plans: Hasan plans to conduct research at a university or in the pharmaceutical industry after graduation.
