Deland Myers, NDSU faculty athletics representative and director of NDSU’s School of Food Systems, has been selected to represent the Summit League on the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Academic Cabinet. The Summit League designated him for the role.

The Academic Cabinet reports to the Division I Leadership Council on policy issues and the Division I Legislative Council on legislative issues.

The cabinet consists of 21 members and the membership rotates among the group in four-year cycles.

The Division 1 Academic Cabinet, Administration Cabinet and the Amateurism Cabinet replaced the former Academics/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet. It is responsible for all academic matters, except matters addressed by the Committee on Academic Performance.

The following committees report to the Academic Cabinet:

  • International Student Records Committee
  • High School Review Committee
  • Student Records Review Committee
  • Initial-Eligibility Waivers Committee
  • Progress-Toward-Degree Waivers Committee

Myers has served as NDSU's faculty athletics representative since October 2007. He earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and came to NDSU from Iowa State University, where he earned a master's degree and doctorate in food technology and served as a professor of food science and human nutrition.
