Two NDSU personnel were recognized with top honors by the National Federation of Press Women at its June 23-25 conference in Fargo.

Carol Renner, college marketing and communications lead for the NDSU College of Health Professions, received first place for social media campaign for the college’s Giving Day event. In addition, Renner received an honorable mention for an advertising campaign for recruitment to the NDSU School of Nursing at Sanford Health, Bismarck, North Dakota.

Becky Koch, lecturer in the Department of Communication and retired NDSU Agriculture Communications director, received first place in the category for publications regularly edited by entrant, newsletter/other publication.

Renner and Koch were among nearly 300 professional communicators who earned honors at the conference. More than 2,000 entries were submitted in this year’s contest.

Contest winners first competed within their state or in an at-large contest for states without contests. First-place winners in these contests advanced to the national contest.

At the state level, Renner received several honors from the North Dakota Professional Communicators organization, including:

• First place for a social media campaign for Giving Day

• First place for a Giving Day video

• First place for an advertising campaign for recruitment to NDSU School of Nursing at Sanford Health

• Second place for a specialty article about public health nursing

• Honorable mention for Nursing Week video

Koch was recognized by the state group with these awards:

• First place for Writing – Newsletter/Other Publication
• Second place for Editing for Print or Online Publications – Newsletter/Other Publication

Renner joined the NDSU staff in 2004 in the Office of Research and Creative Activities and moved to the NDSU College of Health Professions in 2016 after working in positions in corporate strategic communications and broadcasting. Her previous career honors include awards from the FM Advertising Federation, International Association of Business Communicators, Women in Communications and the Associated Press.

Koch retired from NDSU in 2020. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kansas State University.
