Zahid Anwar, NDSU associate professor of cybersecurity and scholar at the Challey Institute for Global Innovation and Growth, is scheduled to present at the Dakota Digital Discussions webinar Thursday, Oct. 13, at noon.

Anwar’s presentation, titled “Overlooked Security Challenges in Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure,” will focus on his recent Dakota Digital Review article about security vulnerabilities of charging stations across the country. The webinar can be joined by logging into Microsoft Teams.

“It is expected that over half of new car sales in the U.S. will be electric by 2030,” Anwar said. “This is an exciting step forward for improving the quality of air we breathe, tackling noise pollution, carbon emissions and working towards better energy security. However, as is the case with any new digital technologies, security and privacy factors need to be considered, especially if they pertain to the safety of our roads. This talk will focus on some of these issues as well as discuss security best practices for electric vehicles.”

Anwar earned his master’s degree and doctorate in computer science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He’s held faculty positions at the National University of Sciences and Technology in Pakistan, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Fontbonne University in Missouri.

Anwar’s research focuses on cybersecurity policy and innovative cyber defense.

Dakota Digital Discussions is sponsored by the North Dakota University System’s Dakota Digital Academy and Dakota Digital Review. The monthly webinar series focuses on the implications of the rapid digital transformation of society.
