Interim deans announced

Interim Provost David Bertolini has announced Stephenson Beck, professor and chair of communication, and Carrie Anne Platt, professor of communication and associate dean, have been selected to serve as interim deans of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Their appointment is effective Dec. 9.

“Drs. Platt and Beck are experienced leaders, deeply committed to the people and programs of the college. They bring complementary expertise to the office and will serve in a joint capacity,” Bertolini said. “Please welcome Drs. Beck and Platt in their new role in our NDSU community.”

Platt has served as associate dean in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and as co-chair of the President’s Council on Retention. Her associate dean responsibilities include coordinating student recruitment and retention efforts, supporting faculty research and creative activity, and providing resources for implementing changes.

Beck has served as chair of the Department of Communication and interim chair of English. His research, teaching and consulting expertise center on conflict management and decision making, with an emphasis on strategic interaction in meetings.

• Jenna Reno, dean's office

• Ashley Baggett, women and gender studies
