College of Business maintains accreditation

SHARE

The College of Business has maintained its business accreditation by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Founded in 1916, the association is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.

Less than 5 percent of business schools worldwide have earned this distinguished hallmark of excellence in management education. To maintain accreditation, a business program must undergo a rigorous internal review every five years, at which time the program must demonstrate its continued commitment to the 21 quality standards relating to faculty qualification, strategic management of resources, interactions of faculty and students, as well as a commitment to continuous improvement and achievement of learning goals in degree programs.

“It takes a great deal of self-evaluation and determination to earn and maintain AACSB Accreditation,” said Jerry Trapnell, vice president and chief accreditation officer of The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International. “Schools not only must meet specific standards of excellence, but their deans, faculty and staff must make a commitment to ongoing improvement to ensure continued delivery of high-quality education to students.”

Ron Johnson, dean of the College of Business, said, “Maintaining AACSB accredited status communicates to the public that the faculty and staff of the college are not only committed to continuous improvement, but that they have demonstrated that commitment through their teaching, scholarship and attention to the curriculum. Having earned the right to be in a group made up of less than five percent of business schools in the world is a pretty significant achievement. I am very proud of the work done by our faculty and staff. We are in very select company, and we are committed to earn the right to stay there. ”

The achievement will be recognized this month at the 2012 The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International Conference and Annual Meeting in San Diego.
