Third-year chemistry graduate students Nandini Vallavoju and Elango Kumarasamy were selected for the American Chemical Society Green Chemistry Summer School to be held at the University of Colorado, Boulder, Colo., in June and July.
The summer school aims to train future generation students and scholars to implement green chemistry in all fields of science and to design chemical transformations that eliminate use and generation of hazardous substances.
The program includes presentations by leading researchers in sustainability green chemistry, laboratory experiments, poster presentations and group discussions in solving global sustainability challenges.
“Both of them are working in the area of lighted induced reactions with an eye toward developing green chemical processes. This summer school initiative will help both of them as it aims to nurture future leaders in the field of green chemistry,” said Sivaguru Jayaraman, associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry.
The summer program is sponsored by a donation from the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund.
