The NDSU Libraries are kicking off a monthly speaker series in January. Topics are expected to range from poverty and homelessness to poetry and jazz appreciation.
The first presentation in the series features Laurie Baker, executive director of the Fargo-Moorhead Coalition for Homeless Persons. She will speak about the local homeless situation, as well as students and youth as homeless persons. Her talk is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 4 p.m. in the Main Library's Weber Reading room. The presentation is free and open to the public.
The coalition is comprised of 60 agencies, organizations and individuals working to find permanent solutions to homelessness in our area. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 16 percent of Fargo’s population is living below the poverty level.
