The NDSU Upsilon chapter of Sigma Alpha has honored one of the chapter founders, Michelle Wall, as the first inductee into the NDSU Sigma Alpha Hall of Fame and recognized faculty member Susie Thompson as Ag Woman of the Year. The announcements were made March 23 as the chapter celebrated its 20th Founders Day.

Wall, BS ’95, grew up on a small grains and purebred Charolais cattle operation south of Mercer, N.D. At NDSU, she helped found the Upsilon chapter of Sigma Alpha, a professional agricultural sorority.

After graduating with degrees in agriculture and mass communication with a minor in marketing, Wall assisted in founding the NDSU Sigma Alpha alumni chapter and served as its first president. She has been recognized on chapter and national levels as a distinguished alumna. At KFYR radio, she coordinated the Agri-International Stock and Trade Show. Wall now works at the Dale Carnegie Business Group of North Dakota coaching individuals, teams and organizations to high levels of performance. Many of her clients work in the agriculture industry. She has been recognized as one of the top 150 trainers in the world and is part of an internationally recognized high performing team. Wall also volunteers for the Women’s Leadership Program in Bismarck and Minot, N.D.

Thompson, an associate professor and potato breeder at NDSU, works to promote agriculture and the potato industry through speaking and giving lectures at various conferences. She works to produce new, better quality potato varieties that are more sustainable. She has served on the NDSU Harvest Bowl committee and the Potato Days committee. Thompson first became involved in agriculture growing up on her family farm near Barnesville, Minn.

Sigma Alpha was founded in 1978 at Ohio State University. It promotes scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship with 56 chapters nationwide.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
