Publications Services customer service representative Kathy Laid, one of NDSU's longest serving employees, will be recognized at a retirement reception Thursday, June 27, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the McGovern Alumni Center. Laid has worked for the university for nearly 48 years.

Laid’s career at NDSU began on July 19, 1965, in the Department of Agricultural Economics. During her time on campus, she also worked for the Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute, and Communications and University Relations Office.

Laid is responsible for trafficking between 50 to 75 publication projects each week. She works closely with multiple clients, designers, writers, printers and a photographer to ensure projects meet deadlines.

“Kathy’s helpful, friendly service has contributed to numerous positive relationships with various departments across campus,” said Brad Clemenson, creative services manager and art director. “She is an outstanding team member and a tremendous resource, due to her time at NDSU. Her ‘institutional memory’ is irreplaceable, and she will be missed dearly.”

In March, Residence Life honored Laid with its Residence Life Distinguished Service Award.

Laid said she plans to spend retirement “catching up on my household duties, quilting and traveling.” She said she will live in Fargo, and travel occasionally to the townhome she and her husband, Vel, own in Las Vegas.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
