Evie Myers, vice president for equity, diversity and global outreach, has been appointed to Diversity Abroad’s inaugural Diversity Network Advisory Council.
The council will advise the Diversity Network in its efforts to increase access, foster diversity and create an inclusive environment in international education. Founded in 2006, Diversity Abroad is an international organization that connects diverse students, recent graduates and young professionals with international study opportunities, internships, teaching positions, volunteer activities and potential jobs.
“The Advisory Council serves as a critical champion of the Diversity Network,” Andrew Gordon, Diversity Abroad president, wrote to Myers. “Members of the Advisory Council share their gifts in service to our mission by providing the Diversity Network with their professional expertise; diverse knowledge of constituent perspectives; connections to local, national or international resources, colleagues or peers; and philanthropic support or other forms of needed assistance.”
Myers was named to the council along with Julius Coles, director of the Andrew Young International Center at Morehouse College; Margaret Heisel, former director of the Center for Capacity Building in Study Abroad; Martha Johnson, assistant dean of the Learning Abroad Center at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities; Jeffery Ogbar, vice provost for diversity and professor of history at the University of Connecticut; and Donna Scarboro, associate provost for international programs at George Washington University.
The initial meeting of the council is tentatively scheduled for this fall in Washington, D.C.
