NDSU Placement Procedures

ACT or SAT Mathematics sub-test scores, COMPASS Mathematics scores and/or the NDSU Math Placement Test are used to determine placement of students into entry-level Mathematics and English courses.

Policies and exam scores with corresponding English and Mathematics course placement are found in the NDSU Undergraduate Bulletin within Academic Policies under English and Math Placement.

The following processes will guide students through the respective test

NDSU Math Placement Test Instructions

This is a timed test that should be taken in an environment free of distractions prior to your scheduled orientation session. For new, incoming students, the test scores will be interpreted and handed back at your orientation session. Currently enrolled students obtain them at One Stop.

To access the test, log on to BlackboardFor browser compatibility information, visit the IT Help Desk website.

The following links will walk you through the steps needed to complete the process. Parts A, B, and C need to be completed in sequential order.

Part A: Claim your N.D. University System account 

Part A: Claim your N.D. University System account (if you have not already done so)
Allow one business day for processing your account before proceeding to Part B.
 

Part B: Log in to Blackboard

1. Go to the Blackboard website: https://blackboard.ndus.edu/

2. Enter your N.D. University System ID as your Username. Enter your password.

Your Username is N.D.University System ID you previously set up in Part A: Claim you N.D. University System account. Most likely it is FirstName.Lastname.
Your password is the password you set up in Part A: Claim your  N.D. University System Account

Please note: If you are having trouble, please contact the NDSU Help Desk at (701) 231-8685, menu option 1.

3. Please continue to part C or D for instructions on how to take the Practice Math Placement Test or Math Placement Test.

Part C (OPTIONAL): Take PRACTICE Math Placement Test

  1. After logging into Blackboard, click on the Courses on the top right navigation pane
  2. Select NDSU’s MPT Challenge
  3. Read through the Announcements
  4. On the left side menu select Take your Math Placement Test & view results
  5. Select Take a Test
  6. Select “Practice Tests” blue link, bottom left of screen
  7. Choose your practice area/subject. You may take as many practice tests as you like.

Part D: Take the Math Placement Test

  1. After logging into Blackboard, click on the Courses on the top right navigation pane
  2. Select NDSU’s MPT Challenge
  3. Read through the Announcements
  4. On the left side menu select Take your Math Placement Test & view results
  5. Select Take a Test
  6. The next page will display the PEARSON End-User License Agreement and Privacy Policy, read through and click on “I accept"
  7. Proctor Agreement, “I accept” and submit test on the top right hand side
  8. Review test and close on the top right hand side
  9. If eligible, continue to next test, submit and review any additional tests
    Please note: Math Placement Test scores are valid for one calendar year from the date of the test. Students who do not enroll in a math course within one year of taking the Math Placement Test must re-take the test.

    Requesting Reasonable Accommodations Based on a Disability

    Eligible students with disabilities may seek reasonable accommodations to take the math placement test. Please submit disability documentation to NDSU Disability Services at least two weeks prior to the time in which the accommodations are needed, and schedule a consultation with a staff member to review your request before taking the test. Documentation will be reviewed and students will be notified if additional documentation is needed to make an eligibility decision. Please submit documentation to:
