Orientation

 


First Year Students

Orientation is required for all first-year students. Please review the available dates for your first semester at NDSU.  If you are unable to attend any of the available dates, please contact Student Success Programs at 800-488-6378, option 2 or ndsu.orientation@ndsu.edu

Summer Semester Orientation

First-year students starting summer semester are required to complete an Online Orientation.  The Online Orientation provides information about academic requirements, financial aid, campus resources, and more. Instructions for completing the Online Orientation are below.  Please contact Student Success Programs at 1.800.488.6378 (option 2) or ndsu.orientation@ndsu.edu with questions.

Instructions for Online Orientation

  1. Claim your N.D. University System account if you have not otherwise done so.
  2. Log into Blackboard using your N.D. University System account.
  3. Click on "Courses" and then "NDSU Online Orientation"
  4. Read through the instructions on the Announcements page.
  5. Complete the Orientation.
  6. Complete Test Your Learning.
  7. Complete the NDSU Math Placement Test (those who are transferring college-level math credits into NDSU may skip this step)
  8. Email ndsu.orientation@ndsu.edu when you have completed steps 1-7.  Once it has been verified that you have completed these steps, NDSU Student Success Programs will connect you with an Academic Adviser.
  9. After receiving academic advising, you may register for courses.

Fall Semester Orientation Dates

Orientation for first-year students starting fall semester consists of two required parts:

1) Online Orientation Modules

  • The modules include information on a variety of subjects such as academics, finances, campus resources, and health and safety. 
  • To access the Online Orientation modules, log into Blackboard using your N.D. University System ID.  Go to "Courses" and then click on "NDSU Fall 2020 Online Orientation".  Then follow the instructions on the Online Orientation Overview page.  All modules must be completed prior to registering for courses.

2) A scheduled Virtual Orientation session with other new students in June and July OR an in-person Orientation on August 21

  • Students will attend a residence life OR commuter student session, learn about life on-campus from an Orientation Leader, and meet faculty and learn about their Academic College.   
  • Virtual Orientation sessions have limited capacity and are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • There will also be a Virtual Orientation session designed specifically for family members.  They will learn about their student's Academic College, the academic and social transition to NDSU, residence life or commuter student services, and may choose from several breakout sessions.
  • Students may choose from a morning session (9:00 am-12:00 pm) or an afternoon session (1:00 pm-4:00 pm) on one of the following dates.

Make an Orientation reservation

*June 10 and 11 are designated Scholars Orientation.  To be eligible for Scholars Orientation students must be recipients of one of the following NDSU scholarships:

  • Harry D. McGovern Scholarship
  • Mildred Larson Business Presidential Scholarship
  • NDSU Merit Recognition Award
  • NDSU National Merit Scholarship
  • NDSU Presidential Award
  • Presidential Honor Award
  • Walter B. and Helene Booth Presidential Scholarship
  • Wayne and Dorothy Gustafson Scholarship

 

 Additionally, students who have earned 24 or more PSEO credits by February 28 and/or who have confirmed their participation in the NDSU Honors Program are also eligible for Scholars Orientation.  Students who are eligible for Scholars Orientation will receive an invitation to these dates as well as the First-Year Orientation dates.

Transfer Students

Transfer students are strongly recommended to complete an Orientation. Please review the available dates for your first semester at NDSU. If you have questions about the available dates or options, please contact Student Success Programs at 800-488-6378, option 2 or ndsu.orientation@ndsu.edu

1) Online Orientation Modules

  • These modules include information on a variety of subjects such as academics, finances, campus resources, residence life and dining, and more. 
  • All transfer students have access to the Online Orientation modules.  Simply log into Blackboard with your N.D. University System ID.  Click on Courses and then on the Online Orientation course.  The announcements will provide further instructions for completing the Online Orientation modules.  

2) A scheduled Virtual Orientation session with other new transfer students in June or July OR an in-person Orientation on August 21
