You might not realize it, but several of the students sitting in your class might be Veterans of the United States Armed Forces, Reservists, and/or members of the National Guard. Perhaps you carry the view that “they are all students, so I don’t really need to worry about this, right?” Yet, having an informed view of “all students” in any setting can severely affect your effectiveness as an educator and cause miscommunication in the instructor-student connection.
