Now Accepting Workshop Proposals For Avenues of Scientific Discovery, Due February 26

Find out how your workshop could win cash prizes.

The Office of Teaching and Learning seeks graduate students (individuals or groups) to participate in this year’s Avenues of Scientific Discovery!

Due to the pandemic, this year we are offering our presentations to high school students virtually, through recorded videos. Selected proposals will create short workshop videos (10 minutes or less) demonstrating fun and interactive components of science.

The theme is “I ❤️ Science”.

Workshop video proposals are due February 26, 2021. There will be cash prizes available for the best demonstrations or activities.

We encourage graduate students to participate in this event because it is an excellent way to build their CV, to gain experience in public outreach/extension, leadership, and teamwork, and to practice presenting their research in an engaging and educational way!

Avenues of Scientific Discovery is an annual event that showcases the fun and interesting aspects of a career in science. We want to make science approachable for high school students, which might guide them into a field of study they would not have otherwise known about or been interested in. More important, showcasing different scientific fields of study allows high school students to experience what science is all about in postsecondary education and the real world.
