Stephen John Quaye, Ph.D. To Speak About Creating Equitable Environments

Learn how equitable environments contribute to retention.

NDSU’s Office of Teaching and Learning will host a live, webinar titled Creating Equitable Environments For Fostering Student Engagement on Monday, December 5, 2022, from 3 to 4 p.m.

Dr. Stephen John Quaye will address how language matters when trying to foster environments where students can succeed. Dr. Stacy Duffield, director of the Office of Teaching and Learning stated that, “Dr. Quaye’s session is incredibly valuable for increasing a sense of belonging among our students, helping instructors to develop equitable and engaging learning environments necessary for learner retention.”

Through this webinar you will understand how to create equitable environments that foster student engagement. You will also reflect on your identity in relation to your teaching.

Quaye’s presentation will guide you in:

  • Reflecting on your social identity,
  • Understanding the difference between diversity, inclusion, equity, equality, and social justice,
  • Distinguishing between involvement and engagement, and
  • Developing one action-oriented strategy for fostering student engagement in your course.

This webinar will host featured speaker, Stephen John Quaye, Ph.D., professor in the Higher Education and Student Affairs Program at The Ohio State University; editor of The Journal of Higher Education; and past president of ACPA: College Student Educators International.
