NDSU Opera is delighted to present Mozart's beloved opera, The Magic Flute, April 26 and 28 in Festival Concert Hall. J. Sherwood Montgomery, formerly of Lyric Opera Sand Diego, will be guest stage director for this production.

Tickets are available online or by calling 701-231-7969. Groups of 10 or more are entitled to one free adult ticket.


Guest Director: J. Sherwood Mongomery

NDSU Opera is honored to work with guest director J. Sherwood Montgomery. Mr. Montgomery began his career with the Aztec Theatre Guild and has since worked with the Julliard Drama Division, the American Opera Center, and helped found Chicago Opera Theatre. He was artistic director at Lyric Opera San Diego for the past two decades, where he directed and/or designed over 70 productions.

Symposium: Perspectives on The Magic Flute

NDSU Opera is excited to present a free symposium entitled "Perspectives on The Magic Flute" on Saturday, April 27 at 10:00 AM. The symposium will featuring presentations by experts in the field of opera research and production, including

  • Lawrence Kramer, musicologist
  • J. Sherwood Montgomery, designer/director
  • Leon Natker, singer/conductor
  • Roger Pines, dramaturg
