NDSU Music Ensembles Selected to Perform
August 24, 2011
The North Dakota State University Wind Symphony and Percussion Ensemble have been selected to perform at the North Dakota Music Educators Association conference in Bismarck, March 2012. The groups were selected from an audition process based on performance from the past academic year.
“We’re excited and honored that we have been selected to perform for our peers in music education for the state of North Dakota,” said Warren Olfert, director of the Wind Symphony. “This is always an important concert for us and we are looking forward to the experience. It is great to be a part of North Dakota’s musical life.”
The Wind Symphony is the premier band at North Dakota State University and performed at the North Central Regional Conference of the College Band Directors National Association in 2010. The ensemble has commissioned new works from several well-known composers and has performed with Frank Ticheli, Michael Haithcock, and Frank Battisti, to name a few.
The NDSU Percussion Ensemble performance will feature both classical and marching percussion in addition to a performance of the NDSU Winter Drum Line. The performances will showcase the studio’s top undergraduate and graduate percussion students. The Percussion Ensemble rehearses weekly and performances regularly on campus and in the community. The NDSU Winter Drum Line is in its third year and will compete in Minneapolis.
