Guest artists will provide area jazz students with expert instruction and a concert performance during NDSU’s annual High School Invitational Jazz Festival on Feb. 5 and 6. The event will feature nine regional high school jazz ensembles working with two nationally acclaimed jazz musicians who will perform a closing concert with the NDSU Jazz Ensemble.

Headlined by trombonist Nick Finzer and drummer Steve Jennings as adjudicators and guest performers, the artists will present a series of clinics and master classes. Student ensembles will perform and receive critiques from 8 -10:30 a.m. and 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6. The student performances are free and open to the public.

The festival concludes on Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. with a high-powered free concert featuring Finzer and Jennings in performance with the NDSU Jazz Ensemble. All performances are in Festival Concert Hall.

He has performed with jazz icons Mike Stern, Denis DeBlasio, and Bobby Peterson, modern country group Hitchville, theater actor and singer Regina Williams, vocal jazz group Moore By Four, and blues artist Ron Thompson, among others.
