Update from Dean Bresciani

Students, Faculty and Staff-

Thank you for the flexibility and creativity in helping NDSU during these tough times. This is an unprecedented time but through your continued creativity and dedication, we will get through this together.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 situation across the country and in our region continues to worsen, and we have a responsibility to adjust our operations accordingly. To that end, you will find new guidance, effective immediately, about the following topics:

  • The status of face-to-face instruction and other campus functions
  • Faculty, staff and student-employee work-from-home arrangements
  • Spring graduation
  • Students living in campus housing
  • Campus buildings
  • Travel

Status of face-to-face instruction and other campus functions:

All courses will continue remotely through the rest of the spring semester. Face-to-face instruction will not resume. Faculty will work with their students regarding both completion of coursework, including finals. Through the end of the semester, students are discouraged from physically coming to, returning to or staying on the NDSU campus unless they have a legitimate reason. For those needing to access university offices, programs or services please use email or a telephone if at all possible.

A decision regarding summer school instruction will be made by the end of April.

Faculty, staff and student-employee work from home arrangements:

As is already the case, faculty and staff who can work from home are strongly encouraged to do so through the end of the spring semester. For those who do need to access campus, please practice the social distancing and other recommended health practices.

Spring graduation:

For students scheduled to graduate in May, it is not possible at this time to anticipate an ability to safely hold the ceremonies. Further delay of the decision seems impractical in terms of students and their families being able to adapt their schedules on short notice. Because of those circumstances, campus leadership has made the difficult decision to postpone spring graduation to coincide with next fall’s graduation ceremony. Spring 2020 graduates will have a separate and distinct ceremony at the end of the fall 2020 semester. More details will be forthcoming but we wanted to allow you to adjust your plans according.

Students living in campus housing:

For students who are staying in or have already returned to campus housing, you must contact NDSU.Residence.Life@ndsu.edu to schedule a departure which fits your personal situation. Students who have a legitimate reason to stay must get approval from NDSU.Residence.Life@ndsu.edu. All students contracted for campus housing through the end of spring semester, but who are currently away from campus, will be contacted by email in the near future regarding a check-out schedule and procedures for removal of their personal items. NDSU will be evaluating the potential for refunds. Students living in apartments may continue to reside in their apartments.

Campus buildings:

Although we will be attempting to keep as many functions as possible operating, as a matter of safety and security the external doors of most campus building will be locked, but with instructions posted if you need access.

Travel:

NDSU will continue its suspension of all University-funded travel until further notice. A dean, provost/vice president and president must approve a request for an exception.
