Strategic Plan 2015-2020

The Strategic Plan defines the strategic priorities for NDSU for the next five years and ensures that our resources are used effectively and purposefully to educate students, perform world-class research, pursue creative and artistic excellence, and serve the citizens of North Dakota. The Strategic Vision contains goals, tasks and metrics that define how the strategic vision will be implemented at NDSU.

Strategic Goals for 2017-2018

Research

A fundamental theme of NDSU’s strategic vision is an enriched approach to research and discovery on campus, one that recognizes the university’s position as the state’s flagship land-grant research university. Two proposals have been selected for funding as part of the Grand Challenge Initiative:

  • Center for Engineered Cancer Test Beds, led by Dr. Kalpana Katti
The success of the Center for Engineered Cancer Test-Beds (CECT) will result in a paradigm shift in cancer studies and reduce time and costs of new drugs and new drug delivery systems to be available to populations. The large cost of the cancer burden on society (estimated to be about $125 B by 2020) can be effectively reduced to enable healthy populations. Specifically, this center proposes to develop novel, life-like biomimetic environments through use of 3D scaffolds that will enable (1) humanoid testing of novel anti-cancer drugs and drug delivery systems as a transformational improvement towards reduction in time and cost of laboratory to clinical studies 2) transformative study of cancer biology, specifically the metastasis to bone, the CECT seeks to design a test bed at the interface of biology and engineering with controlled properties using a synergistic application of in silico design.
