A GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM (GPS) is a very important tool for the soil scientist. It allows us to locate sampling points or underground equipment from year to year or georeference harvest information to make yield maps for presicion agriculture. This GPS information can be added to a Geographical Information System (GIS) so we can study the spatial relationships of many factors.
