A small HAND LENS (this one is about 2 inches tall) is used to very closely study the soil particles while in the field. Many different things can be seen up close in the soil like clay coatings on sand paticles, small root hairs, and insect channels. Many things have contributed to the formation of the solil over a long period of time.
