English 323: Special Information for Tues., March 18th, 2008

You will have a special guest on this date—Dave Martinson, whom some of you may know as an instructor of Creative Writing in our department. David will talk with you about the North Dakota poet Tom McGrath (David was a student of McGrath), and hopefully read you some of his own poems as well.

  • Prior to class, read several of McGrath's poems. You'll find them at the Poetry Foundation's site, in a list titled "Poems." Click here to access that site.

  • After Dave's talk, he'll take off, but you should remain to do the following on your own:

      1. Read over Poetry Project Option 2.

      2. Read over Form and Poetry (if you haven't already). You might also take a look at the brief Power Point presentation titled, "Form in Poetry," in Blackboard Course Documents.

      3. Work on Poetry Project 2, and post a draft by the end of classtime in Blackboard Discussion Board Notepad, the thread titled, "Tues. Class Project 2 Drafts."

On March 25th, we'll discuss your work.
