Velvet-striped grasshopper

Adults

  • Antennae of males clavate, of females simple.
  • Head with a median carina on fastigum.
  • Lateral foveola not visible from above.
  • Pronotum with deep black (velvet) stripes visible from above.
    • Lateral carinae of pronotum slightly constricted at mid-length only.
  • Tegmen with a basal white streak.
  • Adults occur in Spring to very early Summer.
Nymphs
  • Adult structural characters but with ensiform antennae.
  • Nymphs from late Summer to early Spring.
  • Only Amphitornus, Opeia, and Orphulella nymphs at all similar. These are nymphs of late Spring to mid-Summer.
