Opeia obscura (Thomas)

Obscure grasshopper

Adults

  • Antennae ensiform.
  • Head with a median carina on fastigum.
  • Lateral foveola not visible from above.
  • Head stripes run diagonal to sutures.
  • Lateral carinae of pronotum straight.
  • Tegmen with black dashes and usually a white basal streak.
Nymphs
  • First five characters as adult.
  • Only similar nymphs: E. simplex, and A. coloradus. The former is a late Summer through early spring species. Both have a small ridge, subdorsal carnula, on either side of the median carina on the pronotum.
