Large-headed grasshopper

Adults

  • Head disproportionately large.
  • Pronotum broader anteriad.
  • Tegmina brachypterous (short-winged) and leaf-like. Rarely macropterous.
  • Outer face of hind femur gray brown on upper half, fading to horn yellow on lower half.
  • Inner face of hind femur bright yellow.
  • Ventral surface of hind femur orange.
  • Hind tibia blue.
  • Male cercus triangular somewhat flattened, attenuated to apex.
  • Ovipositor without dorsal tooth.
Nymphs
  • Overall color sandy brown.
  • Large head apparent in later instars.
  • Black post-ocular stripe from eye to metazona.
  • Outer face of hind femur with unbroken black stripe.
