Xanthippus montanus (Thomas)

Pink-shanked grasshopper

Adults

  • Pronotum wrinkled and tuberculate.
    • Pronotum cut by two sulci.
  • Tegmen with apical 1/3 finely spotted.
  • Hindwings yellow with a clear apex and crossed by a black band.
  • Lower carina of hind femur expanded into a ventral flange with a slightly sinuate margin.
  • Inner face of hind femur blue-black to bright orange.
  • Ourter face of hind femur with three dark bands.
  • Hind tibia coral red to orange, especially on inner face.
  • Adults in Spring and early Summer.
Nymphs
  • Probably indistinguishable form Xanthippus corallipes.
