Identification key to the Noctuinae occurring in the Dakotas

1.  (key-4b)  Basal 2/3 of costal margin pale, orbicular spot with pale outline,
          length of right forewing  < 14 mm.     Ochropleura implecta Lafontaine.
 

1.'  Costal margin paler at base and at inception of postmedial lines, orbicular
         spot opened above and below, length of right forewing > 14 mm.  
         Pseudohermonassa bicarnea (Guenée).
                

1."  Costal margin without pale areas, orbicular spot open above only, length
          of right forewing > 14 mm.     Pseudohermonassa tenuicula (Morrison).
