Identification key to the Notodontidae occurring in the Dakotas

 

2B3.  (2B)   Forewing crossed by a transverse line of black and metallic scales.  Hind tibia with
        distal pair of spurs only.  Gluphisia septentrionis Walker
.

 

         

2B3.'  Forewing with pale yellow or orange basal and reniform spots.  Hind tibiae with two
        pairs of spurs.  Gluphisia avimacula Hudson.

Note: tibia picture is Peridea basitriens.

 

2B3."  Forewing predominately gray, without yellow spots or metallic scales.  Hind tibiae with two
