Malacosoma disstria Hübner 1820

Common name: Forest tent caterpillar.

Hodges #: 7698.

Identification: 12.8 mm, fw pale, crossed by two dark lines, pro-tibia with epiphysis nearly as large as segment.

Similar species: 7702, 7703.

Distribution: central Canada and U. S., more common east of the Great Plains.

Hosts: larvae feed on a wide variety of trees, in the northern Plains preferring basswood and maple, but also poplar, aspen, apple and cherry.
