Manduca sexta (Linnaeus 1763)

Common name: Carolina sphinx/ Tobacco hornworm

Hodges #: 7775.

Identification: Rfw 49.5 mm,  fw shades of gray, white subterminal line even in course, hw with dark lines separated by light ground color, abdomen with yellow lateral spots. 

Similar species: 7776, 7778.

Distribution: Central America and southern U.S., straying northward.

Hosts: Plants of the tomato family (Solanaceae).

Note: The single ND record may be an escapeé from a laboratory culture.
