Sphingidae: Sphinginae


Sphinx luscitiosa Clemens 1859

Common name: Clemens' hawkmoth.

Hodges #: 7811.

Identification: Rfw 37.2 mm, fws pale with darker costa and tornus, dhw median dark band obsolescent to absent, outer margin black before fringe.  Ventral wings without dark median band.

Similar species: 7809, 7810, 7810.1, 7812.

Distribution: temperate and northern U. S. and central and southern Canada, mostly east of the Rockies.

Hosts: Larvae feed on Salix-- willow, Populus-- Poplar, and Betula-- birch.
